Laos is a small country locked between Thailand, Vietnam, China, Myanmar and Cambodia. Coffee had been introduced to Laos by French settlers beginning of the 20th century. The center of Lao coffee production of today around 20,000 MT Arabicas and 10,000 MT Robustas is located at the Bolaven Plateau in Southern Laos where altitudes reach between 900 and 1350 masl. Because of the environmental conditions being favorable for the production of specialty coffees Olam is growing 1,300ha of coffee at its own estates at the heart of the Bolaven Plateau with plans to expand to 2,000ha. Laos Estates have developed different bands refining the high grown, shaded estates coffees through various carefully designed processing steps to coffees brands with unique and outstanding flavor profiles. All the Estates are Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified.
